Seldén Mast, in collaboration with the ILCA Class Association, has unveiled its latest innovation for ILCA sailors worldwide – the Hi-Load kicker bracket upgrade pack. According to Seldén Mast, this development delivers a major boost in performance and reliability for one of the most critical parts of the ILCA rig – the kicker attachment point.
For years, sailors have faced the risk of fatigue and cracking at the traditionally pressed kicker fitting on ILCA masts – a common point of failure under high load. Seldén’s new precision-cast stainless steel bracket is engineered using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to place material exactly where it’s needed most, reinforcing high-stress zones and eliminating weak points.

The result is a fitting that is said to be 100 per cent stronger than the previous design, while adding virtually no extra weight.
The company also recently released a new Rodkicker 50 for larger yachts designed to enhance sail handling during reefing, preventing the boom from falling into the cockpit or onto the coach roof.
“We’re passionate about helping sailors go faster, sail harder and push their kit with total confidence,” says Steve Norbury, MD at Seldén Mast. “The Hi-Load bracket is a genuine leap forward for ILCA sailors. Whether you’re training every weekend or competing at world level, this is a small upgrade that delivers a big impact on durability and peace of mind.”
Fully approved by ILCA, the new Hi-Load bracket is standard on all Seldén aluminium and carbon ILCA spars. And for those with existing rigs – whether Seldén or not – an upgrade pack provides a retrofit solution.
Each kit includes instructions, aluminium rivets for traditional masts and specialist carbon rivets for ILCA 6 composite spars. The bracket also fits all popular lower vang units, offering complete flexibility for sailors.
