Yanmar Marine International (YMI) will assume direct responsibility for the distribution of Yanmar Marine products in Italy from late Q4 2026.

The Japanese engine maker says the move will help it respond to the changing needs of Italian boatbuilders and owners, while further developing its service capabilities and dealer network.

Floris Lettinga, director of sales and marketing at Yanmar Marine International, says: “As we enter this new chapter, our focus remains on delivering industry-leading products and exceptional support to our customers. By establishing a direct presence in Italy, we can respond more quickly to market needs, strengthen technical and service support, and invest further in the growth of the Italian marine industry.”

Cartello has served as exclusive distributor of Yanmar marine engines in Italy since 1985. Yanmar says it is working with Cartello during the transition. Product availability, technical support, parts supply and after-sales service will continue throughout the process.

After the transition, Cartello will remain an authorised Yanmar dealer and service partner in Italy, operating from Carasco near Genoa.

Corrado Gaia, president of Cartello, says: “After four decades of building the Yanmar brand in Italy, we are proud of what Cartello, our people and our dealer network have achieved together with Yanmar. I would like to thank Yanmar, our employees, dealers and customers for their trust over the years. As an authorised Yanmar dealer and service partner, we will continue to stand by boat owners and to look after Yanmar engines with the same passion and care as always, and we look forward to contributing to Yanmar’s continued success in Italy.”

Yanmar Marine International is based in the Netherlands and forms part of Yanmar’s global operations and its Marine Recreational Business Unit. The business unit includes Yanmar, Vetus, Maxwell, Flexofold and Smartgyro.

YMI operates a worldwide network of service centres providing support in more than 130 countries. The company develops marine propulsion products and systems through work on advanced technologies, with a focus on reducing customers’ CO2 footprints.
