Saim to talk gen sets and onboard energy management at Metstrade

Metstrade 2025 is marking a turning point for Saim Marine. Not only does the company represent many worldwide brands in Italy, it also develops what it terms high-quality solutions for its clients via its in-house design and development teams. And this is the first time Saim is a co-exhibitor of Rehlko’s at the show.

Rehlko’s the rebranded name of Kohler gen sets and the idea is that bringing European distributors to the Rehlko stand will foster stronger collaboration and mutual advantages.

“This has been suggested by the American company to the main EU distributors,” says Marco Donà, Saim’s executive VP & CEO. “Being Rehlko’s co-exhibitor, Saim is officially listed in the directory of the show increasing its visibility.”

It’s a bonus for the company as Saim also has an IoT Monitoring System which integrates hardware and software to monitor the key parameters of all Rehlko gen sets onboard. That means it provides oversight through a single interface. It enables real-time data collection on the performance of onboard systems, looking at power loads, consumption, temperatures, engine hours, and system states.

He recently told MIN that the company’s investing heavily in R&D and engineering to develop integrated systems that manage different power sources for more sustainable boating. It’s focused on providing solutions – like increasing overall sustainability – rather than isolated product development.

Thus Donà will also use Metstrade to help launch OPMS. That’s a system designed and developed by Saim for effective onboard energy management. It ensures continuous energy and dynamic management of several energy sources.

“We believe that the seamless integration of different power sources will become a standard feature on yachts above 70 feet,” Donà continues. “Yacht users (especially charter guests) are more and more sensitive in regards of comfort and sustainability. And this is exactly what the seamless integration does: a seamless transfer of the load from the generator to batteries or to the shore power, when both options are available. Less noise and vibration, less fuel consumption, less hassle for the board.”

A control panel manages energy distribution and switching among the sources of energy (including external sources). It can also check load peaks to reduce energy consumption and prevent energy waste. It complies with ISO, IEC, and RINA standards.

The OPMS seamless solution scheme will be visible at Rehlko booth (12.440) on the wall design, and Saim engineers will be available for customers and professionals to discuss it further in detail and in person.

“It’s a change of strategy for SAIM to become co-exhibitor and, at the same time, to present itself as manufacturer of an integration solution which is approved and promoted by Rehlko,” says Donà.

“The fact of being at Metstrade gives us the possibility to reach potential customers coming from all over the world. Since our customer base is mainly Italian, it’ll be great for us to have this opportunity.”

Donà has recently returned from FLIBS, where he says the feeling he got is that “Boatbuilders are happy with the result and many boats have been sold. Maybe not as many as in the post-pandemic era, but for sure selling boats in this period means people are confident in the future. Alleluia.”

Back in 2022, Saim Group acquired Atlantis Marine Power (AMP) – the then UK-based Kohler distributor – to give Saim more strength to distribute in the UK and to sell its products directly.
