Over the Christmas period in Sydney, the iconic Hobart Yacht Race, which began its 80th edition on 26 December 2025, recorded its first-ever overall victory by a woman.
The Tattersall Cup was awarded to Min River, a 10-4-metre Chinese-owned yacht sailed double-handed by owner Jiang Lin (aged 60) and co-skipper Alexis Loison.
The result makes a series of milestones for the offshore race. Min River is the first female-owned yacht to claim overall honours in the race’s history, but also the first time a double-handed crew has secured a win.
The victory followed a post-race protest involving the 10-8-metre French yacht BNC, crewed by Michel Quintin and Yann Rigal of New Caledonia. BNC was initially declared the overall winner, but a protest over their spinnaker use was upheld, resulting in a penalty that dropped the boat to second place.
The 2025 edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race lasted just over 36 hours and was experienced in challenging conditions, whereby 128 yachts started, with 35 forced to withdraw.
