IGY Ibiza Marina upgrade brings shore power online

IGY Ibiza Marina

IGY Ibiza Marina has completed a significant redevelopment project aimed at modernising its infrastructure and improving services for superyachts. The marina, operated by Ocean Capital Partners (OCP), Grupo Empresas Matutes and Island Global Yachting (IGY), has officially inaugurated its upgraded facilities following works that began in November 2024.

The project involved a complete overhaul of both land-based and marine infrastructure. A new facility has been constructed to accommodate vessels ranging from 20 to 150 metres, including the capability to berth small cruise ships during parts of the year.

A key part of the development included structural repairs to the breakwater footbridge. This allowed the port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares) to recover around 200 metres of berthing line that had previously been rendered unusable. According to the marina, this will enable the reopening of docking space for cruise vessels in the La Marina district and improve operational berth planning during high season, alleviating pressure on nearby docking zones.

A new berth layout was also introduced, alongside upgrades to all nautical services and the opening of a dedicated customer service office for captains and clients.

José Luis Almazán, CEO of Ocean Capital Partners; Javier Sanz, president of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, Juan Manuel Lafuente, councillor of the Sea and the Water Cycle of the Balearic Government, Abel Matutes, vice president of the Empresas Matutes Group; Juan Miguel Costa, insular director of Tourism of the Consell d’Eivissa, Ruben Sousa, councillor for Tourism of the City of Ibiza, Pablo de Torres, councillor of IGY Ibiza Marina

In mid-February 2025, the marina began the process of connecting vessels to shore power. This included the installation of underground utilities in surrounding city streets. According to the company, the new system allows large yachts to connect directly to the local grid, reducing air and noise pollution from onboard generators and increasing energy resilience in the Sa Marina area.

The redevelopment was marked by an inauguration event attended by institutional representatives, clients and residents. IGY Ibiza Marina says the project reflects a broader commitment to sustainable growth and the integration of nautical facilities within the wider urban context.

The company reports that the upgrades have strengthened the electrical network in the neighbourhood and will support faster response times during power disruptions.

Nearly €5 million was invested in the project, which has created 55 direct jobs. According to IGY, a subsidiary of MarineMax, the redevelopment is expected to have a socioeconomic impact of €30.4 million between 2025 and 2033, averaging €3.3 million annually. The company also forecasts the creation of 15 direct jobs, along with more than 300 indirect and induced roles.

IGY Ibiza Marina has operated the site since March 2024 under an eight-and-a-half-year administrative concession. The investment is part of a wider strategy to extend the tourism season and attract larger yachts outside the peak summer months.

Earlier this year, IGY Marinas expanded its commitment to sustainable marine infrastructure by partnering with Aqua superPower to install Sardinia’s first fast electric marine charger at IGY Portisco Marina
