MDL Marinas is adding 18 berths for barges and narrowboats at Penton Hook Marina, increasing capacity on the River Thames.
The project involves reconfiguring the marina’s existing X Pontoon with the installation of nine new 14m angled pontoons, creating 18 berths for barges and narrowboats up to 20m in length.
The marina is also refurbishing its shower and washroom facilities, which are used by berth holders and visiting boaters. The work includes upgraded fittings, new flooring, improved heating, energy-efficient LED lighting and a refreshed interior. New timber cladding and redecoration are being carried out on the exterior of the buildings.
Benedict Moran, marina manager at Penton Hook Marina, says: “These projects are all about investing in the long-term future of Penton Hook and ensuring we continue to meet the expectations of today’s boat owners. Expanding our berthing capacity means we can welcome more barge and narrowboat owners to enjoy everything Penton Hook has to offer.
“At the same time, we’re investing in the facilities our berth holders and visiting boaters use every day. The improvements will make a real difference to the overall experience, creating more modern, comfortable facilities for everyone. We want Penton Hook to be a marina that people genuinely enjoy spending time in, and these improvements are another step towards that.”
Earlier this summer, Penton Hook Marina also introduced Fresh Off the Hook, a waterfront street food initiative featuring a rotating selection of independent food vendors each weekend.
Located near Runnymede, Windsor and the wider Thames Valley, Penton Hook Marina offers berthing, boatyard services and access to inland cruising routes. It serves both leisure boaters and customers looking for longer-term moorings.
The new berths are expected to be available from mid-August, while the refurbished shower and washroom facilities are due to open over the coming weeks.
