Salt launches UK boat finance search platform

Marine finance provider Salt has launched BoatsOnFinance.com, a UK platform that allows prospective buyers to search for boats based on estimated monthly price rather than purchase price.

The platform launches with more than 1,000 boats from 16 UK boat dealers. Instead of beginning with a boat’s headline price, users can filter listings by estimated monthly payments before making an enquiry, which is then passed directly to the supplying dealer.

The launch comes two years after Salt launched its new app, which allows customers to access marine finance quotes in a minimal amount of time.

The company says consumers often think about cars and homes in terms of monthly payments, while boats continue to be marketed mainly by total purchase price. BoatsOnFinance.com is intended to change that starting point by allowing users to begin with a monthly budget, browse boats that fit those parameters and then contact the supplying dealer to continue the purchasing process.

Joe Dalton, CEO of Salt, comments: “We’ve spent the last year making boat finance quicker, simpler and easier to understand. BoatsOnFinance.com is the natural next step because it puts finance at the front of the buying journey. People don’t usually buy a car by focusing on the overall purchase price. They think about what comfortably fits within their monthly budget. We believe boating deserves the same approach.”

According to Salt, every listing on the platform comes directly from a participating dealer. Customer enquiries are returned to that dealer, which remains responsible for providing product advice, handling the sale and offering aftersales support.

“This isn’t about replacing dealers – it’s about bringing more people into the market,” says Dalton. “Thousands would love to own a boat one day but never discover whether it’s actually achievable because they stop at the purchase price. If we can help more people realise that ownership may be within reach, that’s good news for the entire boating community. The dealer remains at the heart of that journey. We’re simply helping more people take the first step.”

Salt says it plans to add more dealer partners as the platform develops.
