Pioneering surfer and sailor Gordon Burgis was awarded his British Empire Medal for services to Jersey’s sailing community in a presentation at Government House.

Day two of the RS800 Nationals brought a windier day than it looked from the shore, with the fleet seeing 13-20 knots across the three races. The stronger breeze made for some fast and physical racing, with plenty of changes at the front of the fleet.

The offshore breeze looked rather less convincing than the forecast suggested, but once the fleet left the shelter of Torquay Harbour, it proved appropriately feisty out in the bay.
