Thordon Bearings has expanded its Canadian presence by appointing Vancouver-based marine engineering and naval architecture firm SAI Engineering as an authorised distributor.
Specialising in vessel electrification, bearing and seal installations, and retrofits, SAI Engineering is backed by a team of technical specialists with more than a decade of industry experience. Its naval architecture capabilities also enable the firm to support new build projects from the early design stages.
The engineering firm works with customers across the marine sector, including ferry and river tug operators, leisure craft and fishing vessel builders and operators, as well as the Canadian Coast Guard. Beyond marine, it also provides engineering services to Canada’s industrial and forestry sectors.
Under the new agreement, SAI Engineering will distribute Thordon’s full range of bearing and seal products. These include the COMPAC propeller and shaft bearing system, which uses seawater lubrication and is designed to eliminate the risk of stern tube oil pollution.
The portfolio also includes Thordon’s RiverTough propeller shaft bearings, developed for operation in abrasive and sediment-heavy waters, alongside SXL and ThorPlas-Blue polymer bearings for grease-free rudder and deck equipment applications.
Focus on vessel electrification
According to Thordon, SAI Engineering’s focus on vessel electrification and sustainable marine operations aligns with the manufacturer’s development of water-lubricated and grease-free bearing technologies.

The appointment adds to Thordon’s established distributor network, which includes partners with more than three decades of experience representing its products, and forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion into markets where demand for lower-impact marine technologies and environmentally focused vessel operations is ever-growing.
