Simrad adds navigation aid overlay to recreational radar systems

Navigation Aid displays channel markers and special markers within the radar application

Simrad Marine Electronics has introduced a Navigation Aid feature for its full range of recreational Halo radars and B&G radar systems. It places navigational aid icons directly on the radar display to help users tell channel markers and special markers apart from other radar targets.

The feature draws on C-Map premium charting data available on compatible multifunction displays, bringing fixed navigation markers into the same view as radar information. It builds on Simrad’s AutoTrack feature, which automatically overlays tracked vessels and potential hazards within the radar application.

“We are excited to be the first to bring this type of integrated navigational aid overlay to recreational radar systems, delivering an entirely new level of situational awareness for boaters,” says Yasser Nafei, president of electronic solutions for Navico Group. “Our radar technology already helps users identify and track moving vessels and potential hazards through features like AutoTrack. By adding navigational aids directly within the radar view, we’re providing a clearer, more complete picture of the surrounding environment, enabling boaters to make faster, more informed decisions and navigate with greater confidence and safety.”

Users can turn Navigation Aid on or off through the Vessels and Targets menu on compatible Simrad displays.

The feature will be available with the Neon OS 2.6 software release, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. Supported Simrad displays include the NSX, NSX Ultrawide, NSS 4 and NSO 4. Navigation Aid also works with B&G’s Zeus S, Zeus S Ultrawide, Zeus SR and Zeus SRX.

Compatible C-Map Discover X or Reveal X charts are required to use the feature.
