Hugo Andreae, former editor of Motor Boat & Yachting magazine, has joined yacht marketplace YachtBuyer as editor-in-chief.
With more than 20 years of marine journalism and hands-on boat-testing experience, he joins the company to lead its editorial strategy and support its international expansion.
The YachtBuyer platform combines independent yacht reviews with advanced data tools. Andreae will work with a growing team of marine journalists and contributors, including US-based reviewer Kevin Koenig.
Andreae’s appointment comes as YachtBuyer expands its consumer-facing content alongside the commercial rollout of YachtBuyerPRO, a B2B intelligence platform for brokers and shipyards. According to the company, YachtBuyerPRO provides superyacht sales and market data and tools that have been used by leading brokerage houses for 15 years. Its database includes 17,000+ verified superyachts (+24m) with detailed build profiles and historical records, and 1,000+ new-build hulls tracked live via a global yacht order book.
Kevin Bodington, founder and CEO of YachtBuyer, says: “YachtBuyer was built on a commitment to data integrity, technological innovation and transparency for the buyer. Hugo shares that commitment to delivering trusted, independent and authoritative information. His exceptional deep industry knowledge and passion for rigorous boat testing, developed as editor of Motor Boat & Yachting, are a natural fit. YachtBuyer has always been about creating a compelling combination of technology and human expertise built to challenge industry conventions and deliver authoritative editorial in yachting.”
Reflecting on his new role, Andreae says: “Joining YachtBuyer is an exciting new development for me, both personally and professionally. What particularly attracted me is the strength of what has already been built – a talented team, high-quality content and an extraordinary depth of yacht data and technology.
“The opportunity to bring my experience and build on those foundations and help shape YachtBuyer’s editorial direction is hugely exciting. I’m looking forward to developing even more in-depth testing, comparisons, insight and informed opinion that genuinely helps people understand yachts and the market.
“I’ve also always enjoyed helping talented people develop their knowledge, confidence and editorial skills. That commitment to developing the next generation of talent is something YachtBuyer and I very much share, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and helping people grow alongside the platform. I can’t wait to get started.”
