Saturday delivered a brilliant day for the club’s ILCA fleet, with four races giving everyone plenty to get stuck into. Numbers were lower than usual this year, but the racing was still close, competitive and good-spirited across all ILCA rigs.

I swore off rivers many years ago, after an open meeting at Cookham Reach. At some point in my hitherto-not-that-long-a-life, I lost patience with light, shifty winds, quite an achievement, given I learned to sail on a pond.

We all agreed that it was kind of the weather gods to allow us all to enjoy day 1 by soaking up the rays with a couple (or more) cold beers in hand, chatting as we usually do. Well that’s the write up for day 1 covered!

World Sailing is pleased to announce that the 2026 World Sailing Women’s Match Racing World Championship will be hosted by St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, California, USA, from 30 September-4 October 2026.

The International Switch Class has welcomed a recent proposal submitted by the Swedish Sailing Federation under World Sailing Regulation 11.5, which explores the introduction of a single-handed foiling dinghy event within the Olympic programme.

On arrival at Barnt Green Sailing Club, competitors were greeted by a flat, calm, mirror-like lake. However, after speaking with Race Officer Andy Bownes, he was confident there would be sufficient breeze to get racing under way.

The Plymouth racing season kicked off this month with the Plymouth Gin Spring Series. 4 April Sundays with a variety of courses from the Plym Yacht Club line.

The first solo race of the 2026 season, the 1000 Race (Port-la-Forêt – Fastnet Rock – Concarneau), will set sail on May 3rd from Port-la-Forêt, with qualification for the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe (starting November 1st) as the ultimate goal.

Horning Sailing Club, based in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, will be holding a Try Sailing Day as part of the Horning Boat Show on Saturday, 2nd May from 10am-4pm. It is a brilliant opportunity to try sailing.
